This activity took place during the 2022-2023 school year as part of two groups of 24-26 students from the 6th General Senior High School of Larissa, under the supervision of Ms. Chryssa Velissariou. It was accompanied by scientific research conducted by Argyris Theos, the treasurer of the “Smiling Sketches”SCE, as part of the social work of the Social Cooperative Enterprise (SCE). The research focused on the empathy of the students and was conducted through a mixed-methods action research approach, including interviews. The concept of empathy refers to the understanding and shared experience of behaviors and thoughts of another person. This research specifically targeted education, utilizing theatre of the oppressed techniques to enhance students’ empathy. The activity included exercises, questionnaires, reflection, and presentations on theater and cinema arts. Additionally, two Forum Theatre performances were presented by the participants. The research findings indicated an increase in empathy, although they were not conclusive. The results will be presented at the International Educational Conference of the E.E.P.E.K., and you can read the primary article presentation here.
